Folding carton FAQs
Good questions
What is the difference between folding cartons and corrugated boxes?
Folding cartons are made from a single layer of paperboard, usually 14 to 24 pt thick, and are built for retail shelves: crisp print, fine finishes and lightweight protection. Corrugated boxes have a fluted layer glued between linerboards, which makes them far stronger for shipping and e-commerce. Many brands use both: a printed folding carton inside a corrugated shipper.
What paperboard thickness should I choose?
As a starting point, 14 to 16 pt suits light products such as tea, cosmetics and small supplements. 18 to 20 pt is the most common choice for retail boxes, and 24 pt adds rigidity for heavier or premium products. We will recommend a caliper after looking at your product weight and dimensions.
What is the minimum order for custom folding cartons?
Digital printing makes short runs practical, while offset printing lowers the unit cost on larger volumes. Send us your size and quantity and we will price both so you can compare.
Can I get a sample before production?
Yes. Every order starts with a dieline and a digital proof, and we can produce physical samples and prototypes so you can check fit and finish before the full run.
Which finishes can be combined?
Most of them. Popular combinations include soft-touch lamination with gold foil, spot gloss UV over matte, and foil stamping with registered embossing. We will flag any combination that does not work on your board.
Are your cartons recyclable?
Paperboard is widely recyclable. Kraft or recycled board with aqueous coating and plant-based inks is the most eco-friendly route, while plastic laminations and window film can affect recyclability in some programs.

Yes. We supply dielines for every style, help with structural design for custom shapes, and review your artwork before it goes to print.
